Please do the following: 1. Make space for your computer. 2. Back up your current files.Making Space for Your Computer When deciding on the location for the computer system, take into account the proximity of electrical outlets, phone lines, etc. Each computer system typically requires 3-4 outlets. If necessary, TSR will provide an outlet strip with 4 ft. cord; please purchase any needed grounded (3-prong) extension cords prior to the installation date. We do not take responsibility for personal items in or around the place where your system will be installed. Please make space for your system and remove all personal items from and around that space. Remember, your installer will need to access the space under and around your desk. Back Up Your Current Files In order for us to schedule your upgrade we need to make sure that your old system is completely backed up. You can make your own personal backup on removable media if you wish. for the install team, we ask that you place all of the files that you want to have backed up into a single folder on your desktop. Please name the folder with your USER NAME so that we can easily find it. The installers will copy this folder over to your new system.DO NOT Backup College-installed software Operating Systems (DOS, MacOS,Windows) Any applications for which you have installation media. DO Backup Documents Spreadsheets Presentations Database Files Special Fonts Bookmarks (Netscape) Notepad/Stickies/Scrapbook (Mac) Shareware/Freeware (Please note - some shareware/freeware applications may be inReplacement with NEWER Operating Systems.) LITS staff cannot accept responsibility for data left on the hard drive of your desktop computer that has not been placed in your folder. On the day of installation, your old equipment will be boxed up and tagged for return to Dwight. Upgraded systems are either 'recycled' for other users on campus or prepared for donations. In both cases, before a machine is given to another user, TSR removes all traces of software and data from the hard disk drive. for that reason, please make sure that you have all of your files on your new computer. When you are satisfied that all of your data has been transferred, please send the bottom of the green form that will be found on the boxed equipment to Facilities Management. |
